The Macchiaioli on exhibit in Venice
In Venice, the Venetian Institute of Science, Literature and Arts at Palazzo Cavalli Franchetti presents The Macchiaioli, Masterpieces from the Mario Taragoni Collection that will run from March 8 to July 27, 2008. The show exhibits a part of the 19th century Tuscan works in the Mario Taragoni collection, who was a great art collector, a man of culture and a supporter of the Italian Risorgimento.
The Macchiaioli collection was amassed over time, following his passion and love of art. Taragoni wasn't affected by trends but he followed the advice of critics, art merchants and authors of artistic literature - this is why the show is exceptional. For the occasion, the collector's family helped the curator, Antonio Paolucci, Chairman of the Scientific Committee composed of Silvestra Bietoletti, Josie Taragoni and Stefano Cecchetto, in searching for works to reconstruct the uneasy social and cultural situation of those times, marked by drastic changes and dramatic events. Among the artists present are Giuseppe Abbati, Giovanni Boldini, Odoardo Borrani, il Piccio, Adriano Cecioni, Serafino da Tivoli, Giovanni Fattori, Egisto Ferroni, Silvestro Lega, Mario Puccini, Antonio Mancini, Raffaello Sernesi, Telemaco Signorini and Armando Spadini.
This shows the possibility of being able to admire the collection thanks to the intellectual spirit of Mario Paragoni, one of the greatest admirers of the Macchiaioli's modernity. The show is produced by Arthemisia, a veteran of the successful "Self Portraits: The Faces of Art from the Collection of the Uffizi" and this is his third exhibition at Palazzo Franchetti.
